Lead flashing is a strip of lead used as part of a junction between building components. On roofs, it may occur beside masonry or other transitions. The visible strip is not automatically the complete water-shedding connection concealed behind the detail.
A report about loose or altered junction material requires identification of the actual arrangement. Not every grey material on a roof is necessarily lead. Describe what is visible and have material, fixing and relationships with surrounding components assessed appropriately.
During repair, ask which parts will be retained, reconnected or replaced. Material selection and appearance may raise additional questions on a historic building. This page provides no cutting, fixing or repair procedure; the detail must suit the actual building and assembly.
