A roof tile is an individual covering element within a tiled roof. Tiles work together in a pattern of overlaps and connections. Assessing one tile therefore also involves its neighbours and its support within the wider roof arrangement.
Profiles, dimensions, materials and arrangements differ between models. A similar colour does not prove a replacement will fit. Establish identification and suitability before selecting supplementary tiles, especially where earlier repairs or different batches of material are already present on the roof.
For historic roofs, retaining existing tiles may be a separate consideration. Age and appearance do not independently establish usability. Ask what condition has been found and how retention or replacement relates to underlying layers and the relevant status of the building.

Will every tile of the same colour fit?
No. Profile, dimensions and connections also matter.
Must an old tile always be replaced?
No. Assessment of actual condition comes before that decision.
